Charlotte commercial real estate firm changing its name
Coldwell Banker Commercial MECA will be named MECA Commercial Real Estate, effective Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023.
After 20 years as a Coldwell Banker Commercial affiliate, the principals of MECA have decided not to renew the affiliation.
“We have enjoyed our time as a CBC affiliate and found success as one of the top 10 firms in their worldwide network,” MECA Commercial Real Estate President Rob Pressley said in a statement released by the company. “However, we believe the time is right for us to transition back to being an independent company. The MECA brand was established long ago as a market leader and over the last decade, we have formed strong relationships across the country. For this reason, we believe now is the time to make the change and serve our clients as MECA Commercial Real Estate.”
MECA Commercial Real Estate’s roots go back to the 1950s when Robert H. Pressley began investing in income-producing properties. MECA Properties was incorporated in 1975 at the urging of his son, Anthony “Tony” T. Pressley, who led the company from 1980 until 2010.
In 2003, Tony’s son Robert A. “Rob” Pressley led the company’s efforts to spin off the commercial brokerage and management business and affiliate with Coldwell Banker Commercial. In 2013, Coldwell Banker Commercial MECA expanded by partnering with Clay Realty Advisors principals, Robert and Eric Clay, who are now partners in the firm.
The rebranding coincides with the relocation of two MECA Commercial Real Estate offices. The Charlotte headquarters will relocate to the Historic Dowd House, which the firm has extensively renovated and expanded.
Additionally, MECA Commercial Real Estate’s Gaston-based office has relocated to a temporary space in McAdenville, while its new office in the Dynamo 31 building is being completed. The South Carolina office will remain at its current location on Main Street in downtown Rock Hill.
To many, MECA is best known for its lead role in the revitalization of Charlotte’s South End neighborhood. Their early development activities along the South Boulevard corridor created such innovative projects as Atherton Mill and the Design Center of the Carolinas, among others.
That early pioneering was instrumental in the explosive growth that South End has experiencedover the last 20 years.
