Charlotte FC value hits $625M — almost double what David Tepper paid for MLS team

David Tepper’s Major League Soccer club is about to start its second season and has already nearly doubled its value, according to new rankings by Forbes magazine.

Forbes this week published MLS team valuations for the first time in four years. Charlotte FC ranks 10th among 28 MLS teams, worth an estimated $625 million.

Tepper paid $325 million for the expansion MLS team in December 2019. The entry fee set a record for MLS. Forbes estimates the fee for the next expansion city, likely Las Vegas or San Diego, will be $500 million. MLS’ 29th club, St. Louis City SC, will debut this season; the expansion fee for that team, awarded three months prior to Charlotte FC, was $200 million.
