Charlotte Latin beats rival Providence Day, continues to chase Cannon in CISAA.

Tuesday night, the CISAA conference championship race saw the field basically narrowed to two.

In Concord, Cannon School raced past Charlotte Christian 89-65 behind 26 points from DJ NIx to remain in first place. In southeast Charlotte, Charlotte Latin got a big win over a local rival to stay close.

The Hawks beat Providence Day 62-49 on the road, an important win that kept Latin one game behind Cannon School for first place.

Providence Day (10-10, 2-3) fell three games in the loss column behind first-place Cannon School (19-6, 5-0) and two behind second place Charlotte Latin (17-5, 3-1).

Latin won its fourth straight game since losing 79-64 at Cannon Jan. 10.

Latin will host Cannon Jan. 28 in a game that looks like it will could ultimately decide the league champion. Latin, however, would have three league games left after it plays Cannon so it couldn’t afford a letdown afterwards if it were to win.

But on Tuesday, the Hawks led Providence Day 14-9 after the first quarter and used a 17-7 push in the third quarter to build a comfortable lead. Graham Calton led the Hawks with 12 points. AJ Ratchford had 15 for Providence Day.
