Local school districts move football games due to threats from Hurricane Ian

Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Gaston County, Richmond County, and Iredell-Statesville schools announced changes to their football game schedules in anticipation of Hurricane Ian.

SCOREBOARD: High School Football Scores

CMS said it will be moving all of its varsity football games this week. The district says all scheduled varsity games on Friday, Sept. 30 have been moved to Thursday, Sept. 29 with the threat of rain from Ian.

JV football games that were scheduled for Thursday will be moved to Monday, Oct. 3rd.

In Gaston County, all varsity and junior varsity football games have been rescheduled due to the threat of inclement weather on Friday. You can find the new schedule here.

Richmond Senior High School moved its homecoming game from Friday to Thursday at 7:30 p.m. because of the weather. The Homecoming court will be introduced during the pep rally at its scheduled time Friday morning, and all Richmond County Schools students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, the district said.

Iredell-Statesville Schools said home and away football schedules have been changed to the following due to possibility of weather:

  • Lake Norman HS on Wednesday, September 28, JV football at Home vs West Cabarrus (7:00 p.m.) / Thursday, September 29, Varsity football at West Cabarrus (7:30 p.m.)

  • North Iredell HS on Wednesday, September 28 and 29 at Home vs North Lincoln (7:00 p.m.) Note: both games will be held at NIHS due to turf issues at N. Lincoln.

  • South Iredell HS on Wednesday, September 28 JV football at Home vs Hickory Ridge (6:00 p.m.) / Thursday, September 29, Varsity football at Hickory Ridge (7:30 p.m.)

  • Statesville HS on Wednesday, September 28 JV football at Home vs Fred T. Foard (7:00 p.m.) / Thursday, September 29, Varsity football at Fred T. Foard (7:30 p.m.)

  • West Iredell HS on Wednesday, September 28 JV football at Home vs East Lincoln (7:00 p.m.) / Thursday, September 29, Varsity football at East Lincoln (7:30 p.m.)

JCSU game moved to Thursday

The football game between Elizabeth City State University and Johnson C. Smith University scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday has been rescheduled.

Kickoff will now be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Irwin Belk Complex at JCSU.
