The Observer’s internship program offers talented college journalists the opportunity to grow and develop in a metro newsroom that covers a vibrant, growing city.

From Day 1 of your internship, you will be welcomed as part of the Observer staff. We’re hiring for a range of internship positions for reporters or photographers on all of our desks: local news, Charlotte Five, breaking news, business coverage and sports.

As you can see from the 2023 class, Observer interns take on important stories and reporting projects and are an integral part of our daily coverage throughout the summer. In addition to honing your craft through interviewing, writing and shooting photos and videos, you’ll have valuable training and development opportunities with senior journalists from the Observer and parent company McClatchy.
