Charlotte has one of the hottest new Latinx-owned restaurants in America, Yelp says
Charlotte has welcomed hundreds of new restaurants in the last few years, but one popular spot has been named one of the best new Latinx-owned restaurants to check out in America.
Ahead of Hispanic Heritage Month, Yelp released its list of hot and new Latinx-owned restaurants across the country, featuring places with the highest online ratings and reviews.
Que Fresa Taqueria + Bar ranked among the top 20, and it was the only Charlotte restaurant included in the report.
“Many of the top 25 Latinx-owned restaurants cater to taco aficionados and fans of Mexican fare. Standout taquerias include Que Fresa (#19) in Charlotte, North Carolina, known for its hot pink and Dia de los Muertos-inspired decor, selection of traditional street tacos, and ‘preppy’ tacos,” the report says.
The local Mexican restaurant, nestled in the Wesley Heights neighborhood, originally opened less than a year ago in 2022 and a second location is opening soon.
“We are honored to be selected to represent Charlotte, NC in the list,” the team said in a social media post about the Yelp report. “Thank you to our friends, family and community for the huge support.”
Owner Manny Flores, who also owns Que Onda, focuses on a modern presentation of Mexican food, so you’ll find tacos with more garnishes than what’s common in a traditional version and elevated cocktails with a global perspective, CharlotteFive reported.
Known for its lineup of 14 unique tacos, small bites and soft-serve margaritas, Que Fresa has become a hotspot for Mexican cuisine. So much so that it was even voted as the best place to get tacos in the area by CharlotteFive readers.
“We put in countless hours of hard work to create this brand, and it’s been so rewarding to see how much Charlotte loves Que Fresa,” Flores previously told CharlotteFive.
Astro Dogs in Greensboro was the only other North Carolina restaurant also ranked in the report. You can find Yelp’s full list of hot and new Latinx restaurants online here.
