How a Charlotte school tried to give students a normal signing day during quarantine

·3 min read

Wednesday was National Signing Day for local high school athletes, and this one was different.

Instead of gathering in a gym or auditorium to sign in front of friends and family, many students had to sign at home, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But for the four signees at Charlotte Latin School, the Hawks’ athletic staff tried to give them a signing day to remember.

The coach of each team traveled to the players’ home, along with four members of the Hawks athletic staff, including athletic director David Gatoux. There were friends and family at each stop, and everyone made an effort to practice social distancing.

“We all stayed down the street or at the edge of the yard,” Latin assistant athletic director Angel Trimble said. “We always do these in our theater at school and it’s usually jam-packed with friends and family and coaches. We make a bit-to-do about it and we didn’t want these four guys to miss out on that. We wanted to give them a taste of it.”

Here are reported signees Wednesday.
