Word of advice: Don’t go up against Charlotte’s Maggie Notter in Shania Twain trivia. She’s a full-blown super fan, and soon the whole world will get to see just how passionate she is about the Queen of Country Pop.

Notter is one of five contestants who will appear Wednesday on “Superfan,” a new CBS reality show that pits faithful fans against each other to prove they are their favorite artist’s most deserving supporter.

Hosted by Nate Burleson and Keltie Knight, each episode features a different musical artist, with this season’s line up to include LL Cool Jay, Kelsea Ballerini, Gloria Estefan, Little Big Town and Pitbull, in addition to Shania.

“It was the most out of body experience,” Notter said of her time on the show. “You glorify these people and are obsessed, but you never think you have the opportunity to meet them. … Shania is the most incredible human being, everything you’d expect her to be. She’s a kind person and she cares, both about the contestants on the show and the audience.”

Notter, whose favorite Shania song is “Any Man of Mine,” applied for the show months ago after learning about it through a podcast. To catch the producer’s attention, she submitted a video of herself dressed in a leopard print outfit and wig, a la Shania’s video “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” She did a little lip synching and then showed off the “Shania shrine” in her apartment with albums, signed pictures, T-shirts and other memorabilia.

“They really saw that I’m a crazy Shania fan,” said Notter, 28, who moved from New York to Charlotte about three years ago with her fiancé, David.

‘Some of my greatest memories in life’ involve Shania

Notter grew up on Shania Twain. When she was 10, her dad bought Shania’s Greatest Hits CD, and it was always playing in the car.

“Some of my greatest memories in life are from that time,” she said. “I vividly remember my Mom singing, ‘Honey I’m Home,’ and then me and my sister in the backseat singing ‘Party for Two.’”

She’s seen the best-selling songstress live in concert four times, starting with Shania’s “Rock This Country Tour” on June 24, 2015, in Toronto. At the time, Notter was in college and working three jobs, so her tickets were “way, way up in the nose bleeds.” But that didn’t faze her. Being in the same room as Shania for the first time was one of the “greatest moments,” she said.

Most recently, Notter saw the “Up” singer perform in Florida in May during the Tortuga Festival, and then June 28 in Charlotte, where she splurged for second row seats.

“We made eye contact a lot,” during the Charlotte show, Notter said.

On “Superfan,” Notter got to interact directly with Shania. She told the superstar about her upcoming wedding and plans for their first dance song to be Shania’s classic love ballad “From This Moment On.” Then it was onto the games, such as Shania trivia, guessing a song without the lyrics and solving a blurred picture. The last two contestants standing then had a dance off to determine the ultimate winner.

As for the outcome of “Superfan,” Notter’s lips are sealed.

“I will say, there is nothing about this experience that I would regret or take back,” Notter said. “Just getting to go there is a win. I don’t even know if I’ll ever have another chance to meet her.”

And while meeting her idol was a dream come true, Notter also walked away from the competition with a new set of life-long friends. She said it was special to be able to connect with other dedicated Shania fans from around the world.

“Family and friends don’t always get it,” she said, referring to her love of Shania. “I have a whole new group of friends now because of this show — it’s incredible.”
