1. Charlotte YMCA names new CEO to lead its rebuilding

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte named a new president and CEO.

Suehila (Sue) Glass will serve as the organization’s first female leader and will be charged with guiding the nonprofit as it seeks to rebuild following steep pandemic losses.

2. Mecklenburg candidate pauses campaign to mourn family member killed in Detroit stabbing

A Mecklenburg County candidate is temporarily stepping off the campaign trail to mourn the loss of a family member.

Lisa Jewel, a Democrat running to represent northern Mecklenburg County in the North Carolina House, is mourning the death of her cousin Samantha Woll. Woll was found stabbed to death outside her Detroit home. Her killing has gained national attention.

3. Miles Bridges’ arrest warrant was months-old — why wasn’t it served in Charlotte?

When Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges turned himself in at the Lincoln County jail, he had not been served with an arrest warrant for nine months.

But why? Deputies often don’t serve warrants on suspects until a chance encounter, a major at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office told The Charlotte Observer.

There are about 1,000 unserved warrants in the sheriff’s office repository, a spokesperson said.

4. Congressional map predicted to gain 3 GOP seats moves forward to NC legislature

Republicans in the North Carolina Senate advanced a new congressional map today expected to result in at least three new seats for the GOP.

The new map, if passed, would likely unseat multiple Democratic representatives, including Jeff Jackson here in Mecklenburg County.
