Charter Spectrum to raise cable TV and home phone prices for many customers in June

Most Charter Spectrum cable TV and home telephone customers can expect to pay more starting in June.

The nation’s second-largest cable operator is notifying customers about a monthly price increase effective June 2. The broadcast TV fee, the TV Select, Silver and Gold packages and equipment fees for set-top boxes are among the rising costs.

The broadcast TV fee will increase by more than 9% a month, from $16.45 to $17.99. The increase is the second for the broadcast surcharge in less than a year. In August, the fee went up by $2.95 a month from $13.50.

With the latest increase, Spectrum cable customers will now pay $215.88 a year for the broadcast TV fee.

Subscribers of the TV Stream and TV Choice packages will see their monthly broadcast fee climb from $8.95 to $12.95.

“TV programmers annually raise fees to carry their content, driving higher costs across the entire industry,” a Spectrum spokesperson said in a statement. “As a direct result of the growing cost of programming from the TV networks we carry, we are passing through these increased fees to viewers.”

The price increases also will affect TV packages for many customers. Those who subscribe to TV Select will see a monthly increase of $3, and Gold package customers will notice an increase of $8 a month. In addition, many customers will see a decrease of $3 a month in their TV bundle discount.

Spectrum receiver rental fees will increase from $7.99 to $8.99 a month for each box.

In addition, the price for Spectrum Voice, the company’s home phone product, will increase by $3 a month to $12.99.

Spectrum internet customers will see no change to broadband pricing. For new customers paying a promotional price for their Spectrum TV or Voice plan – including remote education offer customers – the price increases will not take effect until the end of the promotional period.
