Chase Building Supply says delivery times on materials improving, decrease in prices

Oct. 24—WOODSTOCK — More than three years into the pandemic, delivery times on construction materials are finally improving. Chace Building Supply store manager Dan Murphy said the lead times are better on special order products, leading to a decrease in prices.

" We're starting to see that fall off, which is a positive thing," he said.

The business, which is owned by Scott Chace, is at 90 Somers Turnpike, Route 171, in Woodstock. Staff provide remodeling services for kitchens and bathrooms, as well as installing floors, windows and doors.

" We offer free in- home consultation for kitchens, bathrooms and for paint," Murphy said.

Staff use three- dimensional technology to help customers visualize their new kitchen or bath. The business sells Benjamin Moore paint.

" People love that because they have such a hard time with the colors and imagining what it's going to look like," Murphy said, referring to paint consultations.

There are approximately 30 employees at the business, one of whom is parttime.

While most of the customers are in Connecticut, the company does some business in Massachusetts.

"Most of our customers are local customers, contractors and homeowners in the area," Murphy said.

Chace has worked in the industry for many years.

Beginning at age 13, Chace worked at the family lumberyard, the P. D. Humphrey family lumberyard, which opened in 1885.

By the time he graduated college, he had held many different roles at the company.

In 1986, Chace's father sold his half of the business and decided to start out on his own.

Scott Chace bought a struggling lumberyard in Putnam, " Lumbertown," in 1992.

He purchased a 30,000 square- foot facility on 32 acres in Woodstock in 2002, with a 4,000 squarefoot addition for millwork.

Chace Building Supply supports numerous local causes, giving back to numerous local organizations that benefit children.

Staff have built a permanent exhibit for the Brooklyn Fair, which is held every year during the last weekend of August. Chace is a member of the Northeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and Habitat for Humanity. He has received the Northeastern Connecticut Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year award.
