Chatham COVID-19 Update: Vaccines At ShopRite, Local Testing

CHATHAM, NJ — Here are the latest coronavirus updates around Chatham.

Cases

Chatham Borough reported 22 new cases in its COVID-19 update Tuesday. The residents tested positive between Christmas and last Thursday, bringing the borough to 245 cases to date. Nine people have died from the virus.

The Morris County Division of Public Health has reported 30 new cases since Dec. 24 in Chatham Township, bringing the area to 298 cases since the pandemic began. County officials don't publicly release death details by town, but former Mayor Michael Kelly said in a Dec. 9 update that 34 township residents have died from the virus.

County officials have reported 2,245 new coronavirus cases in Morris County since Dec. 24, bringing the area to 21,407 cases since the pandemic began. The state Department of Health has reported 791 confirmed COVID-19 deaths and 178 probable deaths in Morris County.

Recent Updates

  • Thirty-nine ShopRite pharmacies across the state will begin vaccinating health-care workers for COVID-19. ShopRite also expects its select pharmacies to administer them to the general public once the government allows it. Although the grocery chain didn't include its Chatham location, several stores in the area will provide vaccinations. MORE.

  • After announcing it would phase out at-home coronavirus testing, Morris County officials will add an extra day of testing per week at the County College of Morris. The county expanded COVID-19 testing last month by introducing free at-home tests for all residents and people who work in Morris County. But soon only homebound, symptomatic residents will be able to get home tests. County officials found too many people "hoarded" at-home tests, with only about 7,500 tests returned of 16,300 distributed. MORE.
