Chattanooga-area entertainment calendar includes St. Patrick's Day events, spring markets, Civil War tours
Mar. 10—A Confederate general's leg was buried in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, after the Civil War's Battle of Chickamauga. Tours of a museum that will tell that story are among events on the upcoming calendar. You'll also get a chance to shop in two of the Chattanooga Market's smaller outlets and celebrate St. Patrick's Day with concerts or roller skating. Here's a brief look at what's ahead.
— Chattanooga (mini) Markets: We're still more than a month away from Chattanooga Market's debut, but the nonprofit organization that runs the seasonal fixture on the Southside also operates smaller outlets around town. Two of those debut this weekend.
Chattanooga River Market on the Tennessee Aquarium plaza, 1 Broad St., will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays starting March 12-13. Collegedale Market will run 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays starting March 14 at Collegedale Commons, 4950 Swinyar Drive. Both offer fresh produce, arts, crafts and artisan foods. Face masks, physical distancing and other COVID-19 health protocols are still in place.

On Friday, March 12, country singer Lindsay Ell will perform at 8 p.m., with Temecula Road opening. Ell has won multiple Canadian Country Music Association awards and earned nominations from the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music since moving to Nashville. Tickets are $20.
Wednesday, March 17, kicks off a monthly Wednesday on Wheels with a St. Patrick's Day Roller Disco featuring DJ Dutty Laundry. The floor is open to skaters 7-10 p.m. every third Wednesday. Masks are mandatory, and you must be 18 or older to attend. Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 in advance. MoonlightRoller.com will provide $5 skate rentals.
— Gate 11 Distillery, 1400 Market St., will get a jump on St. Patrick's Day with a party on Saturday, March 13. The third annual event will include music by The Red Rogues (4-6 p.m.) and Stringer's Ridge (7-10 p.m.). Performances will take place outside on the patio. There's no cover charge, but you may want to try one of the Irish-themed cocktails from the bar. Masks are required unless you are seated at your table.
— Civil War tours are on the schedule this weekend at the Tunnel Hill Heritage Center & Museum, 215 Clisby Austin Drive in Tunnel Hill, Georgia. A Union officer will guide visitors through a setup of the historic property's Clisby Austin House when it was used as an Army field hospital during the war, with a surgeon shown at work and soldiers recovering from wounds. The house was where Union Gen. William T. Sherman planned his famous Atlanta campaign. Nearby, a granite footstone marks the site where Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood's leg is said to be buried. These deluxe tours start at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 and 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 12-13. Tickets are $12 (free for children 5 and younger). For reservations, call 706-876-1571 or 706-876-2526.
— The Caverns, 555 Charlie Roberts Road in Pelham, Tennessee, will emerge from hibernation this weekend with sold-out shows by Christian rock band Needtobreathe. Initial shows at the venue this season take place in an above-ground amphitheater, with tickets sold in socially distanced pods for two, four or six people. Other shows this month include Blackberry Smoke, Lucero, Moon Taxi and Steep Canyon Rangers. Shows inside the caverns are not scheduled to resume until June 27 with Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers.
