Recording a runner-up finish was Team Nick Holton, which went 38-7.

Team Dave Martin, which finished 35-10, took third. It was the 25th season played for Dave Martin, who has played every year since the league started back in 1999.

“I have been playing (rec volleyball) since its inception 25 years ago,” said Martin. “(Cheboygan recreational center referee) Matt (Nedwid) has been a great referee for the past quarter of a century.”

Nedwid also delivered praise back to Martin, a longtime volleyball player.

“Dave Martin’s been a loyal asset to the league for 25 years,” said Nedwid.

Other volleyball teams competing this past regular season included Matt Mlynarczyk and Josh Skilton, who tied for fourth place, Brittany Wiley and Dale Schmidt, who finished in a tie for sixth, and Brandon Blaskowski, which was eighth.

On Sunday, March 19, the Cheboygan rec center hosted a spike league B division double-elimination tournament, which saw Team Brittany Wiley emerge as the winner.

The spike league A division tournament will be held at the rec center on Sunday, April 2, with teams Beaubien, Holton and Martin – the top three regular season finishers – competing against each other in a double-elimination format. The final is expected to start between 4-4:30 p.m.
