Check out these 2022 albums from upcoming Roots N Blues festival acts

A number of this year's Roots N Blues festival artists will bring new music with them to Columbia. While some will tease to forthcoming projects, others will season their sets with cuts from albums already released in 2022.

Here are just a few of the new records from this year's festival acts, each of which would make a nice warmup to this year's Roots N Blues held Oct. 7-9 in Stephens Lake Park.

The Dip, "Sticking with It"

Hot-to-the-touch horns, reverberating guitars and soaring chorus vocals frame 1960s-style soul grooves on the latest from this Seattle collective. There are plenty of good vibrations to absorb here. Plays 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.

The Heavy Heavy, "Life and Life Only"

On their website, the British rockers cite "Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones, British Invasion pop acts like the Hollies, folk-blues duo Delaney & Bonnie" and more as influences on their debut EP. A guitar's chug and crackle, the hum of a vintage organ and dreamy vocal melodies more than pay back their debts to such inspiration. Plays 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct 9.

Hippo Campus, "LP3"

On what is, yes, its third record, this Minnesota band creates glimmering indie-pop gems that are slippery and slinky in the best ways. These earworms are shot through with the bright light of horns, the pulse of deep drumming and cool synthesizer swells. Plays 6:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7.

Old Crow Medicine Show, "Paint This Town"

The stalwart string band stretches across American roots music on its latest, echoing the heartland hooks of John Mellencamp on the title cut and riffing on classic country and bluegrass forms elsewhere. Plays 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

Tank and the Bangas, "Red Balloon"

The Louisiana band's third full-length — following 2019's "Green Balloon" — is a dynamic, swirling R&B affair. Singer/force of nature Tarriona "Tank" Ball's delivery is sometimes big and theatrical but, while Ball and her band create serious grooves, they never take themselves too serious. Plays 5:30 p.m. Saturday

Wilco, "Cruel Country"

One of the marquee names at this year's fest, the Midwestern innovators return to the roots of their music with an album of country-tinged tracks that sound both fresh and timeless. Leader Jeff Tweedy sounds as contented as he ever does, tying lyrical loose ends from across his catalog. And the band behind him continues to develop its tuneful minimalism, giving these songs space — then filling it with thoughtful playing. Plays 8:30 p.m. Friday.
