Hoodline crunched the numbers to find the best affordable bookstores in Los Angeles, using both Yelp data and our own secret sauce to produce a ranked list of the best spots to fulfill your urges.
1. The Last Bookstore
Topping the list is The Last Bookstore. Located at 453 S. Spring St. downtown Los Angeles, the bookstore is the most popular low-priced bookstore in Los Angeles, boasting 4.5 stars out of 2,045 reviews on Yelp. According to its website, The Last Bookstore is the largest used and new book and record store in California.
It writes on Yelp: "Our inventory changes by thousands of titles per day. We also buy more books daily than any other bookstore in Los Angeles."
2. $10 Or Less Bookstore
Next up is Northridge's $10 Or Less Bookstore, situated at 8978 Tampa Ave. With 4.5 stars out of 139 reviews on Yelp, the bookstore has proven to be a local favorite for those looking for a budget-friendly option. The family-owned and -operated bookstore sells new and used books.
"A well-stocked independent bookstore with a varied assortment of used and like-new books," it writes on Yelp.
3. Stories Books and Cafe
Echo Park's Stories Books and Cafe, located at 1716 Sunset Blvd., is another top choice, with Yelpers giving the budget-friendly bookstore four stars out of 394 reviews.
Yelper Channary V., who reviewed Stories Books and Cafe on Nov. 28, wrote, "...They have books! All kinds of books — the historical, inspirational, artistic books. You can sit, enjoy your coffee and a nice book."
