Dec. 7—GRAND FORKS — The Blue Moose Bar and Grill, in partnership with the East Grand Forks Police Department, is planning a Teddy Bear Toss at the East Grand Forks Senior High vs. Grand Forks Central boys hockey game Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Civic Center in East Grand Forks.
Fans who bring a teddy bear to the 7:30 p.m. game will be admitted without charge.
When the East Grand Forks Senior High Green Wave team scores its first goal, fans will throw the teddy bears onto the ice, said Casey Morin, general manager of the Blue Moose. The bears will be collected and given to the local "Code 3 for Christmas" charity to benefit families in need.
This is the first time the Blue Moose has been involved in this type of event, Morin said. He and one of the Blue Moose owners, Pat Boppre, are alumni of and played hockey for East Grand Forks Senior High.
"Our goal is 200 teddy bears," Morin said.
If East Grand Forks doesn't score a goal in the first two periods, the first whistle after the second period will signal the toss, he said.
If the event is successful, Morin and Boppre plan to repeat it next year at an East Grand Forks Senior High girls hockey game.
The Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra will present a concert featuring the music of Claude Debussy at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Masonic Center, 423 Bruce Ave.
The program will include Debussy's masterwork "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun," as well as two other notable works. Alejandro Drago, UND music professor, is the symphony's conductor and artistic director.
Featured guest artist is Giles Askim, the winner of the 2022 Young Artist Concerto Competition, who will perform Gregson's "Tuba Concerto." Askim, a UND sophomore majoring in music education, is principal tuba with the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the Dakota Brass, UND's Faculty Brass Quintet, the UND Student Brass Quintet, and the UND Tuba Quartet.
He has served as principal tuba in the North Dakota All-State Band and Orchestra for four years and in the National Association for Music Education All-National Honor Ensembles orchestra.
Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors (age 65 and over), $15 for military, and $5 for children 15 and younger and students with ID. Tickets are available online at

The East Grand Forks Campbell Library is hosting the "License to Chill" event from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.
At the indoor event, cookies, hot chocolate and apple cider, all donated by the East Grand Forks Hugo's store, will be served.
All ages are welcome to take a break from the hubbub of winter and enjoy fun activities at the library, said Robyn Benda, public service librarian.
The event will feature polar escape rooms, craft-making and a puzzle exchange. Winter sensory activities, including making homemade snow and a melting snowman are also planned.
Artist Jill Levene from Warren, Minnesota, will lead a block-carving and printing activity for those who wish to make holiday cards or other artwork.
UND and East Grand Forks Senior High School students will be on hand to help with the activities, Benda said.
