DCG Veterans Day Assembly

10:35 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at DCG High School Gym.

DCG High School will be hosting a Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 9. Scott Potter will be this year's featured speaker. Doors will open at 10:05 a.m. with the program to follow at 10:35 a.m. Please join us as we honor our local heroes.

Veterans Day at Iowa Veterans Cemetery

8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr., Adel.

The Veterans Day program at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery will be held on Friday, Nov. 10. Gov. Kim Reynolds will be the honored guest, and this year’s keynote speaker will be Maj. Sean T. Quinlan, USMC (Ret). Quinlan is an Iraq War combat Veteran, former JROTC Instructor and football coach at Des Moines North High School, current football coach at Osceola High School, and motivational speaker. The traditional in-person, public ceremony, will run for about 45-60 minutes. The Iowa Veterans Cemetery Ceremony will also be broadcast virtually, state-wide and recorded on the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs Facebook page.

Perry Veterans Day Program

10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at Perry Performing Arts Center.

Perry's Veterans Day events include a complimentary breakfast for veterans, active service members, National Guard and reserve personnel from 6-10 a.m. at Perry Hy-Vee. The 33rd annual Perry High School Social Studies Department Veterans Day Panel Presentation will be held from 8:45-9:45 a.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center. The panel, moderated by Gary Overla, will feature members of the Perry Area Veterans of Foreign Wars. The 25th annual Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m., followed by a luncheon in the Perry High School Gym.

ADM Fine Arts Boosters Craft Show

9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Meadow View Elementary, 1300 S. 15th St., Adel.

Kick off your holiday season with the ADM Fine Arts Boosters' Second Annual Craft Show on Saturday, Nov. 12, Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Children under 5 and parents/student volunteers are free. The Crafts & Vendor Show is sponsored by the ADM Fine Arts Boosters and serves as a fundraiser for all ADM Fine Arts Programs.

Dallas County Veterans Memorial Wall Dedication

10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Freedom Park near Highway 169, Minburn.

All are welcome. Please join us in a dedication to show our appreciation for all Dallas County veterans, past and present. Our gratitude for the volunteers who made this memorial wall possible will not go unnoticed. The dedication ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. Limited seating is available and lawn chairs are welcome. A soup luncheon will follow at the school gymnasium in Minburn, 618 5th St.

Art on the Prairie Festival

Nov. 11-12 around Perry.

Art on the Prairie, an arts festival which showcases Iowa artists, musicians, and writers, returns for the 13th year on Nov. 11-12. This nonprofit art festival is a collaboration of creativity that layers art, music, and words from a foundation of small town community spirit and ingenuity. It is free to the public and facilitated by a dedicated volunteer team. Explore each of Art on the Prairie’s venues to find surprises around every corner. Watch art in action as artists throw pots, paint, create letterpress prints, silkscreen, and fuse lamp work glass beads. Find more details at artontheprairie.org.

Poetry on the Prairie

Poetry on the Prairie will be held on Nov. 11-12 in the Security Bank Building. This event is free and open to the public. Art on the Prairie Events at Perry Public Library

The Perry Public Library will welcome local author Megan Cline for a children’s storytime during Art on the Prairie at 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the Library Community Meeting Room. Cline will lead an all-ages storytime featuring the classic "Winston Winks," as well as other favorites, such as "Winston Wakes" and "Winston Wiggles." The library will welcome Iowa author Joy Neal Kidney for a special presentation at 2 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the Community Room. Neal Kidney is the author of "Leora’s Letters: The Story of Love and Loss for an Iowa Family During World War II," a true story based on her grandmother’s letters. The companion book, "What Leora Never Knew: A Granddaughter’s Quest for Answers" releases soon and begins in Perry’s Violet Hill Cemetery. Two additions to the library will be dedicated at 1 p.m. on Nov. 11, including a Book Board Browsing Bin in honor of Darlene Myers and a piece of art as a memorial for Paul Herrick. The library will also showcase local student artists in the Art on the Prairie Student Art Exhibit on Nov. 11-12. Come view original artwork from Perry Community School students throughout the library all weekend. All of the activities are free and no registration is required.

RED Dinner and Auction

5-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 at Three Sisters Barn.

Get your tickets and join DCG Education Foundation for a night of dinner, fun and philanthropy as they raise education dollars for the DCG Senior Class. In addition to the dinner, a silent auction will be held through Nov. 11. Proceeds from the auction will be used to continue the DCG Education Foundation's commitment to supporting and promoting excellence within the Dallas Center-Grimes Community School District through post-secondary educational scholarships for students. Bulldogpalooza

The Van Meter Performing Arts Booster Club will host the second annual Bulldogpalooza on Saturday, Nov. 11. The event will feature entertainment from a dueling piano group along with auction items. Cesar Muños

The Perry Fine Arts Series will present Cesar Muños on Sunday, Nov. 12. Cesar Muños will be playing cumbias to love songs to tropical tunes. The music is upbeat and makes you want to dance. Perry Fine Arts concerts are free (donations are accepted) and open to all. The Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.

Mobile Food Pantry

8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18 at Crossroads Church, Perry.

Crossroads Church will host a mobile food pantry from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18.

Tinsel Trot

10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25 at Raccoon Valley Bank.

The Perry Booster Club will host the annual Tinsel Trot on Saturday, Nov. 25. Registration for the 5k walk/run will start at 10 a.m. with the race starting at 10:30 a.m. The event will also include a photo op with Santa and the Bluejay mascot along with Jays Nest apparel sales. The cost is $35 for adults and $25 for students. Pre-register by Nov. 14 to be guaranteed an event T-shirt. Online registration is open through perry-booster-club.square.site.
