It’s summer vacation, one of the most popular times of the year for packing your bags and taking a trip to somewhere new and exciting. Augusta Regional Airport offers a handful of nonstop destinations including Atlanta, Washington, the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and Charlotte, North Carolina.

But going on vacation can be expensive. So when are the most affordable trips and what should newcomers try once they land safely on the ground? Below is a look at this summer’s cheapest travel times to and from Augusta Regional based and some activities to plan your vacation around.

Charlotte, North Carolina

Starting June 20, Tuesdays and Wednesdays offer the cheapest flights this summer to Charlotte. Those who take a week-long trip are looking at about $265 roundtrip.

Charlotte has a variety of attractions to entertain all kinds of guests like the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Carowinds Amusement Park. There are several big acts doing shows this summer in Charlotte including:

  • Alicia Keys at 8 p.m. July 2 at the Spectrum Center.

  • Blink 182 at 7:30 p.m. July 14 at the Spectrum Center.

  • Luke Combs at 5:45 p.m. July 15 at Bank of America Stadium.

  • Sam Hunt at 7:30 p.m. July 22 at PNC Music Pavilion.

The end of June will feature multiple popular summer events in Charlotte including the Charlotte FC v. CF Montréal soccer game and the the Durag Festival celebrating Black culture on June 24, plus the Street Car Takeover lasts all weekend from June 22-24.

Washington, D.C.

Those interested in visiting the nation's capital should try to do so between June 20 and July 10. If planned correctly, a traveler could score a roundtrip for about $200.

Once there, tourists have hundreds of different options for things to do from museums and parks to historical landmarks and walking tours. But those wanting to save more money should visit the Smithsonian's collection of museums plus the National Zoo. All 22 hot spots offer free admission.

Headliner events include Darius Rucker performing on June 20 and Barenaked Ladies on July 2. The stage spectacle of Disney's "The Lion King" has multiple shows hitting the Kennedy Center throughout the summer. Guests can also enjoy unlimited drinks and other fun at the Red, White and Brew Festival on July 8.

Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas

Many flights from Augusta to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport are more on the expensive side, but it's not impossible to find something affordable. Roundtrips of $256 are possible on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between July 11-26.

But because the airport is located between two major Texas cities, it offers twice the fun. Those looking for a deal to hit several landmarks can try the CityPASS, an identical program to one in Atlanta where tourists play one flat, discounted fee which grants them admission to multiple destinations. Dallas' includes admission to:

  • Perot Museum of Nature and Science

  • GeO-Deck of the Reunion Tower

  • Dallas Zoo

  • George W. Bush Presidential Museum

  • Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum

A few fun-filled events coming to the area include a Shania Twain concert on July 21, and a Multi-Cultural Jamboree and Music and Margaritas Festival on July 15.

Atlanta, Georgia

Though Atlanta isn't a terribly long drive, some vacationers may prefer to fly and not deal with high gas prices and heavy Atlanta traffic. If so, their best bet for a low-cost flight would be to schedule a trip in July, when most days offer roundtrips for just under $300.

Like the Dallas, Atlanta's CityPASS brings out-of-towners to some of the state capital's favorite places to visit at a discounted rate, including:

  • Georgia Aquarium

  • World of Coca-Cola

  • Zoo Atlanta

  • Fernbank Museum of Natural History

  • National Center for Civil and Human Rights

As far as things-to-do, Atlanta will be the site of at least two festivals celebrating African culture: the Jollof Festival at Morris Brown College on July 8 and an "African Party in the Park" at Central Park on July 22. There will also be multiple home games for the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta United FC.
