How to check cell service outage status when mobile phone networks go down

AT&T cell phone service is down, customers across the country are reporting.

The problem is part of a nationwide telecommunication outage, according to USA TODAY and reports from Downdetector. Outages are also being reported by Verizon users and customers of other cellular providers.

“Some of our customers are experiencing wireless service interruptions this morning. We are working urgently to restore service to them," AT&T said in a statement to USA TODAY on Thursday morning. "We encourage the use of Wi-Fi calling until service is restored.”

Consumer Cellular, which also has customers reporting outages, posted an alert at the top of its website: "Wireless carriers nationwide are experience a disruption in service. All carriers are working to store service as soon as possible."

Many customers are wondering how long service will be down before a fix is made.

Here's how cellular customers can check for an outage, repair status and get an estimate for when the service will be back up.

AT&T outage map

AT&T customers can check for service outage information by using the company's outage map or downloading the AT&T Smart Home manager app.

However, just after 10 a.m., the outage map appeared to be experiencing technical difficulties.

Verizon network status

You can check for Verizon outages by visiting its check network status website.

Customers can also sign in to their Verizon account to check for outages.

Additional outage tips are available on the Verizon's service outage information webpage.

T-Mobile support

T-Mobile said its network was not impacted by Thursday's outage.

"We did not experience an outage," spokesperson Oscar Meza said. "Our network is operating normally. Down Detector is likely reflecting challenges our customers were having attempting to connect to users on other networks."

If customers ever experience service problems, T-Mobile does not offer an outage map, but customers can find support contact information on the company's website.

Consumer Cellular outages

Consumer Cellular does not offer an outage map for customers, but has contact information on the troubleshooting page of its website.

Cricket Wireless

Cricket Wireless posted on its webpage Thursday that customers are experiencing service interruptions.

"We are working urgently to restore service to them," the statement said.

While the company does not have an outage map on its website, customers can get help via the contact us page.
