Mike Felton, the director of the Learn to Skate program at the Westchester Skating Academy, works with Mickey Scova, 4 1/2 at the facility Aug. 15 in Elmsford. The center has been in operation since 1996 and offers public skating, figure skating and hockey classes and birthday parties. The center operates year-round, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Mark Benvenuto, left, chats Aug. 16 with shop owner Steve Venuti at the Elmsford Hardware store on East Main Street in Elmsford. The store, a fixture in the neighborhood for over 100 years, is your classic hardware story carrying everything that you would need for home improvements.

The program, led by children's librarian Sarah Northsheild, is one of many programs for children, teens and adults at the library.

Michael A. Eannazzo, right, the Chief of the Elmsford Fire Department, goes over some air pack training Aug. 11 with Brandon Danuff at Elmsford Fire Company No. 1. Looking on are, from left, Mikey Perez, Olivia Eannazzo, Yvette Eannazzo and Anthony Eannazzo. The village, which has about 60 active volunteers, has two ladder trucks, two engines and a utility truck. The members meet for training and truck cleaning on a weekly basis.

Bella Gillin, the rescue manager at Paws Crossed Animal Rescue in Elmsford, plays with puppy Eddie outside the shelter Aug. 3. The center at the site on Warehouse Lane has been operating since September 2016 with the new addition to the front of the building added in May 2023. The shelter has about 75-90 dogs and 15-25 cats at any one time, in addition to the 100 active volunteers and 20 regulars.

Nancy Villa, a 10-year employee at Carmine's Deli & Cafe in Elmsford, serves lunch Aug. 3 to regulars Marlene Rego and Jenni Schlesinger. The popular deli, in the spot for 20 years on Old Road, also turns into a music venue on weekend nights.

Nicole Schoener from Hawthorne and Anthony Carosella from Mount Vernon perform a rap song Aug. 10 during karaoke night at Pete's Saloon and Restaurant in Elmsford. The music is provided by DJ Nick Moustakas, a 26-year veteran at the saloon. The establishment, which has been around since 1977, is a fixture in the neighborhood. They have a variety of events like trivia, Karaoke, weekend brunch and live music on the weekends.

Noemi Yuqui, an employee at the Dessert Oasis Cake & Pastry Shop on East Main Street in Elmsford, arranges some pastry on a tray at the shop Aug. 17. The shop owned by Alfonso Xelo for 20 years features customer favorite cakes like Tres Leches, fruit tarts, chocolate mousse and strawberry shortcake. The shop, open seven days a week, operates from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The location has been a bakery since the mid 1990's.

From left, Tim Treanor, Santiago Morrice, Zach Ossowski, Mike Rota, Chris Rota and Ed Ossowski, enjoy an afternoon in the beer garden Aug. 5 at Captain Lawrence Brewing Company in Elmsford. The guys were out celebrating the upcoming marriage of Chris Rota. The brewery was founded in 2006 by Scott Vaccaro and they brew a wide range of beer styles. According to their website, in addition to their award-winning sour beers, Captain Lawrence is widely known for brewing extremely Fresh IPAs, highly drinkable lagers and a variety of specialty craft beers.

Tom Young, the owner of the Main Street Garage in Elmsford, works on his 1967 Pontiac GTO automobile Aug. 9. Young, who has been at the shop for 46 years, has owned the 8 cylinder vehicle since 1970 and enjoys taking it out for a spin all the time. The garage on Main Street has been in operation since the early 1950's.

The library hosts a variety of programs for children and adults.
