Check out the funky furnishings in this OKC home for sale that went viral online

"Going viral" doesn't always just happen, as a Realtor found out when he helped whip up a frenzy online for an unusual and elaborately furnished home for sale in OKC.

Ronnie Jordan, co-owner of OKC Metro Group, knew the home at 17405 Hawks View Court was special, and when Zillow Gone Wild ran with it last week on Facebook as You Never Know What's Going on Inside a Home, Part 30, it did go viral.

By midday Tuesday it had gotten 9,700-plus Likes, Wows and Loves, 6,800-plus comments, and it had been shared 5,600-plus times. That was just the Facebook post. It went out on other social media, as well.

A 'broker's open' helped kick off the online frenzy in Oklahoma City

But Jordan also fanned the local flames of curiosity and interest with a broker's open, a showing just for other real estate agents. Between 50 and 60 agents showed up. He asked them to share it on social media, and they did. A dozen or more posted the listing on Facebook alone, and each post sparked numerous comments.

“Of all my real estate listings over the years, 17405 Hawks View Court has been the most viral property with thousands of comments and tens of thousands of reshares on social media," said Jordan who co-owns OKC Metro Group, in Bethany, with Doug Arnett. "This listing is a real estate agents dream. ...

"We could not be more excited about sharing this listing with Oklahoma and beyond!”

Funky furnishings give this listing in Oklahoma City a viral lift online

What almost no one in the online swarm knew was the unusual owner of the unusual 4,884-square-foot home, which has five bedrooms, five baths and magic in every room, Jordan said. It can be had for $1,593,000, or, with all the magic — the funky furnishings — for $2,450,000

The owner is bestselling author, voice-over artist and energy guru Jarrad Hewett, a "multi-dimensional channel and energy expert who specializes in visionary teaching and energy work that allows reconnection and healing at every level of being," as Hewett puts it on his Facebook page.

Hewett, who for years was the voice of the Disney Channel, as well as many other media, retail and commercial clients, was away from all the buzz this week in a remote area on retreat.

“What I love the most about this listing is how carefully my client curated every since item and brought it all together to deliver what I call a masterpiece,” Jordan said. "He really has spared no expense."

What makes Jarrad Hewett's home for sale so unusual?

Hewett's home is in the Oklahoma City limits, in the Rose Creek neighborhood, has an Edmond postal address, and an interior that seems to be from out of this world — or maybe a Disney studio. Several years ago, 405 Magazine christened it Jarrad Hewett's House of Mouse in a feature that explained how the unusual decor came about.

Hewett was converted to color, with a little help from his longtime friend interior designer Grant Mathiews, with whom he had worked on two home projects previously.

“When I moved back from L.A.,” Hewett said. “I wanted a very traditional home, with dark wood and 18th-century European design influences.”

It would be "the opposite of the prevailing design trade winds in Los Angeles, in other words," the magazine writer, Christine Eddington, pointed out. "It seems unfathomable that this buoyant, happy soul would inhabit a modern, gray-on-gray home, yet that was his plan … until, that is, a fateful day in Dallas."

A trip to Dallas helped make Jarrad Hewett's OKC House of Mouse as colorful as Disney

Hewett explained: “Grant (Mathiews) and I had gone to Dallas to look for accessories, and we went to Jonathan Adler (furniture and home decor) and Nest (interior design) and it was like I’d literally turned a corner. I saw all of this color, and I thought, ‘I’m a creative person,’ and that was it. My direction changed.”

For Hewett, interior design became a recreational pastime, the magazine reported, "a de-stressor, and an ongoing source of creative joy." Hewett said the decor and furnishings in his home were "always evolving," and he didn't cut corners.

"It’s perfect for entertaining with a gourmet kitchen, high end appliances, Walker Zanger designer backsplash tile, massive island," writes the listing agent for an unusual home for sale at 17405 Hawks View Court.

405 Magazine described Hewett's place:

"Chandeliers aren’t just painted, they’re powder-coated. Tables have had silver leaf painstakingly applied. Faux finishes aren’t finished until they’re just so. Sofas and chairs are covered in a washable synthetic that looks like exotic leather, so that Hewett’s beloved boxer Sadie can lounge at will. ... Two orange ottomans nearby were actually the first pops of color, followed by a pair of Jonathan Adler throws."

Top designers made Jarrad Hewett's house a splendiferous home

"Now, the home is a joyful cacophony of color and texture, which defies logic by managing not to feel overdone or crowded," 405 Magazine wrote about the house at 17405 Hawks View Court, which is listed for sale.

Jordan the listing agent, gave more details in the listing itself, name dropping designers to impress:

"It’s perfect for entertaining with a gourmet kitchen, high end appliances, Walker Zanger designer backsplash tile, massive island, coffered ceilings in the connected living area with a beautiful fireplace. It also offers both formal and informal dining areas. ... Ascend the exquisite staircase and admire the carefully curated chandeliers and fixtures by Arteriors and rich wall coverings by Designers Guild throughout the entire home."

Not everyone is impressed with Jarrad Hewett's tastes in interior design

Comments left on Zillow's Facebook post about the home ranged from agog to some gags. Here is a sampling:

  • "This looks fun. (Starry-eyed smiley). I love it!!!"

  • "The pool area is awesome!"

  • "My father in law would have said, 'This house is like a safe, I don’t get the combination.'"

  • "Looks like it could double as Willy Wonka’s opium den."

  • "The only place I could possibly relax is the pool."

  • "It’s so over the top that I LOVE IT!"

  • "My eyes hurt and may never be the same after that one. Could have done without 90% of everything that was in there."

  • "I can’t tell if I just had a full blown anxiety attack or if it cured my anxiety!?! (smileys)"

  • "I bet this place is SO FREAKING COOL in person!

  • "It’s so obnoxious I can almost hear the photos."

  • "That’s wild! It would be a lot for me, but you can tell they put a lot of time and work into making it just right for them."

Others comments were just mean. Or profane.

People either love it or hate it. It is, as Jordan said, "highly customized."
