Friday Night Live concerts

Main Street Murfreesboro kicked off the Friday Night Live concert season Friday, June 3, on the Public Square.

Enjoy free live music from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Be sure you bring your own seating — chairs and blankets — and plan to dine at one of the downtown restaurants and do a little shopping.

Groove Addiction will perform July 1. Mix Tape goes on stage Aug. 5. 24/7 will close out the concert season Sept. 16.

"SpongeBob: The Musical"

Center for the Arts, 110 W. College St. in Murfreesboro, presents "SpongeBob: The Musical" on stage through June 26. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sundays.

Adapted from the iconic Nickelodeon series, you'll see SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward and all of Bikini Bottom face total annihilation — until a most unexpected hero rises to take center stage.

Splash Out!

Play under the spray of the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department at the summertime Splash Out! Wear clothes and shoes to get wet in, and don’t forget your sunscreen and towel. Admission is free. Times are 1:30-3 p.m. and dates are:

  • June 16, Siegel Neighborhood Park, 500 Cherry Lane

  • July 7, Barfield Crescent Park, 697 Veterans Parkway

  • July 21, Old Fort Park on Old Fort Parkway

June in the Creek

Explore the creek at Gregory Mill Park, 390 Enon Springs Road E. in Smyrna. June in the Creek will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. June 16, 23 and 30.  Wear close-toed shoes and clothing you can get wet. There is no charge.

Boro Art Crawl

The Boro Art Crawl returns to the Courthouse Square, South Public Square, on June 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. In collaboration with Main Street Murfreesboro's Sip, Shop and Stroll, the art crawl is on and around the historic square. Local artists and vendors will set up shop with many items available to purchase.

Worship night

Experience Community Church will host Worship Night on the Square: A Thousand Hallelujahs at 7:30 p.m. June 17 on the Murfreesboro Public Square. The event is free and open to the public.

Summer celebration

Tinkergarten invites everyone, especially the kids, to come out to Stones River National Battlefield, 3501 Old Nashville Highway, to celebrate the beginning of summer. Free for everyone, activities will include songs, dancing, crafts and education. This event is on June 17, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Nourish Food Bank luau

"Aloha, Hānai” luau to benefit Nourish Food Bank is set for 6:30-9:30 p.m. June 17 at 746 E. Main St. in Murfreesboro. The $50 general admission ticket for the 21-and-older event gains you access to food, drinks and music. Boat Days

Thinking about getting into boating? Try out a variety of watercraft at the annual Boat Day. Times are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 18 at the Jefferson Springs Recreation Area off Jefferson Pike at Percy Priest Lake, and 9 a.m. to noon June 25 at the Stones River Greenway's Manson Pike Trailhead, 1208 Searcy St. (off Medical Center Parkway). Flotation devices, paddles and boats are provided. This event is free and open to all ages.

Juneteenth festival

Bradley Academy Museum, 415 S. Academy St. in Murfreesboro, will host a Juneteenth Celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 18. The free event will feature an outdoor festival with Kids’ Zone, free games and activities, food vendors, artists, live re-enactments, live music and dancing.

Juneteenth at Discovery

Celebrate Juneteenth with free admission from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 19 at the Discovery Center, 502 S.E. Broad St. in Murfreesboro.

Father's Day and cars

Mayday Brewery, 521 Old Salem Road in Murfreesboro, will host a free classic car meet from 2-6 p.m. June 19. Bring a car to show off or see the ones people bring.

Fireside for Father's Day

A Father's Day campfire and night hike is set for 7-9:30 p.m. June 19 at Sharp Springs Park, 1000 Espey Drive in Smyrna.

Bring dad to enjoy games and s’mores, followed by a guided hike with activities designed to increase your knowledge and comfort when it comes to darkness. Registration is requested. Cost is $2 per person. Contact mike.kraft@townofsmyrna.org for more information.

Love Your Neighbor picnic

Murfreesboro Cold Patrol and Murfreesboro Muslim Youth will host return of Love Your Neighbor potluck picnic from 3-9 p.m. June 27 at pavilion seven in Barfield Crescent Park, 697 Veterans Parkway in Murfreesboro.

Food from more than 20 cultures was served at the Love Your Neighbor on the Square event, held Sunday on the Murfreesboro Public Square.

Purpose of this event is to share food and fellowship, regardless of ethnicity or religion. There is no charge to participate. If you are able, bring some food to share and label for meat and allergens. But you are not required to bring anything.

Here are farmers markets open this summer and fall:

  • The Rutherford County Farmers Market has kicked off the season at Lane Agri-Park, 315 John Rice Blvd. in Murfreesboro. The market is held from 7 a.m. to noon each Tuesday and Friday through Oct. 28.

  • The La Vergne Farmers Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday from June 4 through Aug. 27 on the walking trail at Bicentennial Park next to La Vergne City Hall, 5093 Murfreesboro Road.

  • You'll find farm-fresh, locally grown products and produce all year long at the Lascassas Farmers Market, 7684 Barlow Lane in Lascassas. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday.

  • Smyrna Depot Farmers Market kicks off Saturday, May 21. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday through Sept. 18 in the downtown Smyrna Depot area along Front Street.

  • Main Street Saturday Market opens Saturday, May 21, on the Rutherford County Courthouse circle and runs from 8 a.m. to noon each Saturday through October.

  • The Eagleville Farmers Market kicks off June 1 and will be held at the Apex Bank parking lot on Main Street. Hours are 7 a.m. to noon each Saturday through the end of August. Anyone who sells homemade or home-grown products can apply to be a vendor. For more information, call 615-785-3742 for an application. Soon, applications will be available online at eaglevilletn.gov/.

Movies Under the Stars

Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation presents a summer of Movies Under the Stars. Bring lawn chairs, blankets — even use the bed of your truck — to see free movies. The season kicks off Monday, June 6 and runs through the week of June 27.

Movies begin at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free for all ages. Concessions are sold. Visit Facebook to learn more or email lwright@murfreesborotn.gov.
