Andrew Catalli of Mount Kisco and his son Andrew, 3, visit the goats Aug. 3 at Muscoot Farm. Andrew comes to the farm twice a week with his mom or dad. Muscoot Farm, previously a dairy farm, is now a Westchester County park open year-round for visitors to see the animals and the historic buildings.
Shops in historic buildings line Katonah Avenue. In 1897, when New York City reservoirs were constructed, residents decided to relocate about 50 buildings to create the current hamlet.
Nancy Del Savio and her dog Callie read with children Aug. 9 at the Katonah Village Library. Callie, a specially trained dog through The Good Dog Foundation, encourages reading in kids in a low-stress environment. Read with Callie is one of several programs the library offers.
Docent Jennifer Sokol gives a tour Aug. 9 of the Wu Chi-Tsung: Synchronicity exhibit at the Katonah Museum of Art. The Taiwanese artist creates large-scale collages with rice paper and cyanotype photography. The museum houses three to four exhibits annually and gives docent tours daily at 2:30 p.m. It's closed on Mondays.
Flowers from Cabbage Hill Farm in Mount Kisco on Aug. 12, one of the dozens of vendors at John Jay Homestead Farm Market. The market runs until the end of October. While at the Homestead, visitors can check out The Red Barn, Carriage Barn Education & Visitor Center, Playhouse, Schoolhouse and gardens.
Concertgoers arrive on the lawn Aug. 11 to hear the Brooklyn-based electronic indie band Balún at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. The center is a musical destination with five venues for performances and the grounds are open to explore for free from Thursday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Owner Gretchen Menzies holds scones Aug. 23 at the Katonah Reading Room. The combined bookstore and coffeeshop with fresh baked goods, toasts and salads is housed in the building of Katonah's first library. The Reading Room hosts community events with speakers and group painting sessions on the second floor.
The front facade of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, which was first constructed in 1890 in the Gothic style with a three-story bell tower. St. Mary's was the only church to be moved from old Katonah to new Katonah. Unlike many of the other buildings that were moved on logs pulled by horses, the church was dismantled and reconstructed on its new site in 1901.
Katonah resident Casey Lynam opened Our North, a women's clothing and accessories store on Katonah Avenue, in June 2023. Lynam says the shop is a curated collection of smaller, lesser-known brands from New York, Los Angeles France, Italy and Australia.
Visitors make a wish before tossing their coins into the fountain Aug. 24 at the Memorial Garden at Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial in Katonah. The Westchester County park is a 234-acre property that includes trails, gardens and a Veterans Museum.
