Oct. 27—The Altru Family YMCA is hosting its annual "Hoot 'n' Howl Halloween Bash" from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30. Children ages preschool to grade 5 are invited to attend, accompanied by an adult.
This annual event features carnival games, treats and prizes, a cupcake walk, bounce house, costume contest, and the Y's legendary haunted house, organizers say.

A "Trunk and Treat" event for children is planned for 3-5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Family Reality, 1725 32nd Ave. S.
The event is free and everyone is welcome.
"We want the little ones to come on in before it gets dark," said Sharon Lunski, a sales associate with Berkshire Hathaway.
Families with children ages preK to grade 3 are invited to the annual "Haunted Heritage Village" event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Heritage Village in East Grand Forks.
The event features trick-or-treating, concessions, and fun indoor and outdoor activities, including science activities organized by the Dakota Science Center.
The event is free; canned goods will be collected for the local food cupboard.
The Heritage Village is at 219 20th St. N.E, East Grand Forks.
The Dakota Science Center is also hosting "Weird Science Day," for kids ages 10 and older, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Dogmahal/Ojata Records, 305 N. Washington. Participants can expect a "hair-raising, spine-tingling, interactive science show," organizers say.
The Altru Family YMCA will host its fall "Haunted Indoor Triathlon" on Saturday, Oct. 29, starting with the first wave at 8 a.m.
Participants can swim, bike, run or walk in indoor comfort, without having to worry about wind, rain, snow or insects, organizers say.
Divisions include youth junior, ages 8-12; youth senior, ages 13-16; and adult, ages 16 and older. Distances are figured according to age.
Prizes and t-shirts will be awarded; they are sponsored in part by the See Dick Run store.

On Friday-Sunday nights, Oct. 28-30, the Empire Arts Center is screening "The Rocky Horror Picture Show — LIVE!," with two showings each night.
The 7 p.m. show is general admission; the 11:59 p.m. show is intended for mature audiences. Tickets are $18.75, including fees. For tickets, go to

On Saturday, Oct. 29, at 9:30 p.m., guests are invited to explore select spaces in the Empire and determine if the building is haunted or not. Tickets are $10 at the door.
The arts center will also show Disney's "Hocus Pocus 2," starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. All seats are $2.
In the comedy-fantasy film, three high school students team up to stop resurrected, 17th-century witches who are looking for revenge, from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow's Eve.

The "Stand Up @ The 'Libre' Comedy Show and Fundraiser" is set for 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, with proceeds going to Academy of Kids, a Grand Forks child care center.
The Libre Bar and Nightclub is located at 3450 Gateway Drive, former site of the Westward Ho.
The event, organized by the Fargo Comedy Collective, will feature comedian and host Doug "Buddy Love" Petaway, headliner Tim Jones, and David Standal. Three special guest comedians will also entertain the audience.
Food and bar service will be available. The event includes a best costume contest and raffles.
Doors open at 8 p.m.; showtime is from 8:30 to 10:25 p.m.
Tickets, purchased in advance, are $25 for an adult or $45 for a couple. Admission is $30 at the door.
The leaders of the Grue Church Project are hosting the Fargo Spelemannslag at a special fundraising event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Grue Lutheran Church in rural Buxton, North Dakota.
The Fargo Spelemannslag is a group of musicians and instrument-makers from this region who are dedicated to the art of Norwegian hardanger fiddling. They will perform in concert at 4 p.m. Concert tickets are $15 per person; no charge for children 12 and younger. Proceeds from the event will be used for the restoration of the 130-year-old Grue Lutheran Church, 1423 168th Ave. NE, Buxton, into a cultural, arts and spiritual center. The event is sponsored by the American-Scandinavian Foundation and the Grue Church Project in partnership with the North Dakota Museum of Art.
