You can get anywhere from Mahopac according to this sign outside Mahopac Marina on South Lake Boulevard. Mahopac Marina is a full-service marina owned and operated since 1969 by the Melchner Family and located on Lake Mahopac in Putnam County.

Kids get a chance to explore the inside of Mahopac fire department's ladder truck Aug. 4 during National Night Out at Chamber Park in Mahopac. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships to help make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.

Shihan Joe Galbraith teaches a Mini-Dragons class Aug. 19 at Jim Smith Karate on Mahopac Avenue. Mini-Dragons learn the fundamentals of karate by participating in activities that improve their hand-eye coordination, reaction time and the ability to focus. Shihan Joe is a Fifth Degree Black Belt, and is an accomplished teacher, competitor, and coach in the art of Goju-Te karate. He started at Jim Smith Karate at the age of 6, becoming an instructor and co-owner.

A personal watercraft cruises by one of the Frank Lloyd Wright homes on Petra Island on Aug. 19 in Lake Mahopac. Petra Island is a private 10-acre, heart-shaped private island that has two Frank Lloyd homes and a helipad.

Putnam County Sheriff Department's K-9 Flash greets visitors at a Community Day FUNdraiser at Mahopac Falls Fire headquarters July 22. K-9 Flash is an extremely successful tracking bloodhound, who along with his handler Deputy Hill has been called to many crime scenes throughout Putnam County.
