Halloween is just around the corner which means spooky season is here.

Each October, fright seekers head out for some scary fun. Get lost in a spooky corn maze, go through a eerie carwash or brave one of several haunted houses or trails.

Check out these nine area haunted attractions in Cleveland and Gaston counties and just across the border in neighboring South Carolina.

Shelby Haunted Corn Maze

120 Broadway Drive, Shelby

The spooky attraction will be running every Friday and Saturday in October.

Tickets are $15 for the maze and for those wanting to do the farm activities as well as the maze, combo tickets are available for $22. Tickets can be purchased online or onsite.

The haunted maze takes people through rows of corn with scary creatures popping out from among the rustling stalks when least expected. The winding maze takes people through various attractions, including a spooky bus.

Lawndale Haunted Pyramids

2745 Toney Road, Lawndale

The Cleveland County classic is celebrating 26 years of fear.

The Haunted Pyramids has Hollywood special effects, courtesy of Ray Bivins. He has worked with major motion pictures such as Children of the Corn II, Hellraiser III, Mall Cop, Talladega Nights and many others. Bivins was the special effects coordinator on many of these movies. The Haunted Pyramids attractions all have some new designs and scares every year.

The Haunted Pyramids also has the Coroner’s Cafe for those who work up a hunger with their fright.

Open 7:30 p.m. to midnight every Friday and Saturday in October plus Halloween night.

General admission is $30 and VIP is $45 with both including admission to all five attractions. Season passes are $60.

Starting off strong, a Gaston County fan favorite is Hickory Grove Haunted Trail.

Located at 4064 Mountain View St. in Gastonia, this haunted attraction has been opening every fall for 20 years.

This year, Halloween enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies alike can visit Hickory Grove Haunted Trail from dark until midnight every Friday and Saturday, from dark until 10 p.m. every Sunday, and on select weekdays, including Halloween.

In Belmont, kill two birds with one stone by visiting the Tunnel of Terror hosted from 7-11 p.m. every weekend, Friday-Sunday at the Aquawave Express Car Wash in Belmont.

Price of admission to the attraction located at 6415 W Wilkinson Blvd. is $30 per car.

Scarrigan Farms, the haunted attraction at Carrigan Farms in Mooresville, is open Thursday-Sunday every week in October.

Reservations are available as early as 7 p.m. each night, and cost of admission ranges from $20-$45 per person, depending on time and day.

Lake Hickory Haunts, located in Hickory at 520 Carolina Ave. describes themselves as a haunted theme park.

Find out what a haunted theme park entails any weekend this October from 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday or 7-10 p.m. Sunday.

The attraction will also be open select weekdays and the first weekend of November from 7-10 p.m.

The Fear Farm Haunted House, located at 424 Ninety-Nine Island Road in Blacksburg, South Carolina, is open every Friday and Saturday in October from 7-11 p.m. and on additional select nights starting at 7 p.m.

They will also be open from 7-10:30 p.m. Oct. 22, 29, and 31.

The Maze of Terror, located at 2198 Miller Road in China Grove is open every Friday and Saturday in October from 7:30-11 p.m.

Tickets must be purchased on-site for this attractions, which includes a haunted house, hay ride, trail and corn maze.
