Check power outages near you after heavy storms rolled through Nashville, Middle Tennessee

Severe weather and at least six tornadoes passed through Nashville and Middle Tennessee early Saturday morning, the National Weather Service confirmed Sunday.

Wind gusts reached record highs of 78 mph at Nashville International Airport at 3:30 a.m., according to the weather service. It was one of the highest measured wind gusts ever at the airport.

Two deaths were reported in northwest Tennessee's Lake County, one in Obion County where another person also remains missing, and a fourth in Shelby County, according to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.

Some power outages persist as of Sunday afternoon, but the majority of customers have seen their service restored.

By early afternoon Sunday, about 6,400 customers are still without power as Nashville Electric Service continues to work to restore service

"At the storm’s peak, it knocked out power to about 95,000 customers and broke nearly 120 power poles, which take longer to repair and replace," according to an NES email Sunday morning.

Engineering crews and bucket crews are focused on the most heavily damaged areas with the largest number of outages Sunday, and NES expects to restore power to "all major infrastructure circuits by Monday," according to the utility.

Some customers with independent, individual outages might not see their power back for up to five to seven days though, once crews pivot to individual outages.
