It’s the state semifinals for UIL high school football teams and 40 schools are still in the hunt for a state championship at AT&T Stadium next week.
Only five programs remain in the area, Aledo, Argyle, Decatur, Glen Rose and Brock.
Take a look at some notable facts, top games and players to watch in the Fort Worth-area:
Against the champs
South Oak Cliff won the Class 5A Division 2 state championship last season while China Spring won the 4A D2 title. Argyle takes on SOC and Decatur plays China Spring this week in the state semis.
SOC looks to repeat while China Spring moved up to 4A D1.
Argyle has won two state titles, going 16-0 in 2020. The Eagles also moved up, now in 5A D2.
Aledo takes on Longview. The Bearcats are 10-time state champs and Longview last won in 2018. Glen Rose plays 8-time champ Carthage. Glen Rose is making its first trip to the semifinals.
Brock won in 2015 while Malakoff was state runner-up in 2018.
Playing from behind
During the past two weeks, the Brock Eagles have rallied for wins over Bushland and Whitesboro.
Brock trailed Bushland 27-7 in the second quarter before the Eagles scored 44 straight points to pick up a 51-27 victory in the regional semifinals.
The Eagles then struggled on offense for three quarters against Whitesboro and then scored four touchdowns in the final period to pick up a 30-19 win in the regional final.
Brock is averaging 39 points per game this season.
426 yards total
Glen Rose is making school history with its first appearance in the football state semifinals. The Tigers beat Monahans 62-14 in the 4A D2 Region 1 final.
The Tigers outscored Monahans 49-7 in the first half, including 28-0 in the second quarter.
Senior quarterback Hudson White torched the Monahans defense going 12 of 19 for 190 yards and four touchdowns through the air. He also rushed 15 times for 236 yards and three touchdowns.
The dual-threat QB has thrown for 2,221 yards and 29 TDs to three interceptions this season. He’s also the team’s leading rusher with 1,779 yards and 33 TDs.
White is averaging over 360 yards of total offense per game.
