Sep. 15—GRAND FORKS — The Muiderman Theater will be hosting "An Evening with Pierre Bensusan" at 8 p.m. Sept. 23. The theater is in the home of Dr. Kevin and Amy Muiderman, 1410 Elm Coulee Dr. N.E., Thompson, North Dakota.
This concert is part of the Masters of Guitar Concert Series. Admission is $20 per person.
Bensusan, visiting here from France, is an internationally renowned guitarist, singer and composer. His style, described as "world music" by some, encompasses Celtic, blues, folk and African themes and rhythms.
The legendary virtuoso has been lauded by the Los Angeles Times as "one of the most unique and brilliant acoustic guitar veterans in the world music scene today."
"I am beyond excited to announce that we are once again hosting live music," said Kevin Muiderman. "Our smaller size really makes you feel the concert is being put on just for you."
Bensusan's most recent album, "Azwun," released in early 2020, "remains his best for years," according to David Mead, writing for the "Guitarist" publication. Mead described the compositions as "intense and evocative (and) delivered with a remarkable level of finesse."
The concept for the album came from observing bees, "working in the darkness as one," Bensusan said, "and by observing flocks of birds flying and dancing together as one. It has been an inspiring symbolic representation of the continuum of music."

A touring production of the Broadway musical "Hairspray," a Tony Award-winning comedy, is coming to the Chester Fritz Auditorium on Saturday, Sept. 17. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m.
"Hairspray" is the story of 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad, in 1960s Baltimore, who sets out to dance her way onto TV's most popular show.
It features a score of hit songs, including "Welcome to the '60s," "Good Morning, Baltimore" and "You Can't Stop the Beat". The New York Times praised the Broadway show as "fresh, winning and deliriously tuneful!"
The performance here is the result of a partnership between the Chester Fritz Auditorium and Nederlander National Markets, branded as "Broadway In Grand Forks." The other show coming to the Fritz, under this partnership, is "Legally Blonde: The Musical" on Feb. 13. The show follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, sexism, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams.

The Blue Moose Bar and Grill in East Grand Forks is celebrating Oktoberfest from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, with free hayrides and lots of other outdoor activities.
Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy weiner dog races and costume competition, sack races and face-painting for the kids, and free corn hole games, said Jordan Speare, assistant general manager. Simplot is providing the potato sacks for the kids' sack races.
The event will also feature free beer-tasting, a pretzel toss, German food and a huge selection of Oktoberfest beers, Speak said
This is the ninth such event, which has been staged annually, except for 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. Former employees have been invited back to help with the event, Speare said. "We have a pretty close crew."
A new activity this year, hayrides are scheduled for 2-5 p.m. True North Equipment is providing tractors for the hayrides, which will be going through the nearby campgrounds, Speare said. "It's something fun for the kids to do."
The "Roaming Thunder" band will perform live music for the event which is billed as "the biggest celebration of beer in the Valley."
A food truck will be on hand and beer will be sold outside.
The fifth annual Goat Yoga Day at the Patch on the Point is Saturday, Sept. 17, at Point Paradise Stables, 20753 440th Ave. S.W., East Grand Forks.
Marissa Mihelich will lead goat yoga sessions at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Guests are asked to arrive 15 minutes before the session to check in.
The cost, $25 per person, includes all-day admission to the Patch. If the event must be rescheduled, for weather or other reason, it will be held at the same time Sept. 18 or, if necessary, Sept. 25.
Goat Yoga Day has been a feature of the first weekend of the Patch on the Point every year since it opened five years ago, said Kristen Vetter, owner. "It's been a great success."
Special events are planned for each Saturday this fall, she said. A magician will be performing Sept. 23. An opportunity to adopt a pet is planned for Oct. 1.
The Point Paradise Stables will also hold a Military Appreciation Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30. It's free for active and inactive military members with ID. The event will feature live music by Herlof Huso.
The Patch on the Point is more than a pumpkin patch, Vetter said. It features lots of activities for families and many animals for kids to meet, including calves, donkey, lambs, emus, goats, potbelly pig, alpacas, chickens, rabbits, ponies and horses.
