Each year, Cleveland County’s 30 schools experience changes in leadership as principals transition to new roles or new administrators are hired.

This year, when summer ends and school begins in August, parents can expect to see some familiar faces at new locations as seven principals and assistant principals transition into new roles for the 2023-24 school year.

One of the notable changes is at Shelby High School. After spending his career at Shelby High, Principal David Allen is retiring and Eli Wortman, who was previously serving as principal of Shelby Middle, will step up to fill that position.

Other changes include:

  • Jennifer Blanton: transitioned from principal at Jefferson Elementary to principal at Burns Middle

  • Christopher Dow: promoted from assistant principal at Kings Mountain Middle to principal at Jefferson Elementary

  • Miriam Harvey: transitioned from principal at East Elementary to principal at James Love Elementary

  • Kim Kepner: transitioned from principal at James Love Elementary to principal at East Elementary

  • Lindsay Mays: promoted from assistant principal at Burns High to principal at Casar Elementary

  • Andy Roberts: promoted from assistant principal at Crest Middle to principal at Shelby Middle
