Why are they coming to Rockford?

To pay homage to the Rockford Peaches and help raise funds to build the proposed International Women’s Baseball Center building near Beyer Stadium.

Rockford is also a somewhat convenient stop on the way to Canada. The exhibition game will serve as a tune-up before Team USA plays in the Women’s Baseball World Cup group stage in Thunder Bar, Ontario, from Aug. 8-13.

What they said:

“We’re honored to welcome the USA Baseball Women’s National Team to Rockford and excited to showcase this city to the world as the home of the International Women’s Baseball Center,” said Kat Williams, IWBC’s CEO. “This is a tremendous opportunity for the IWBC and Rockford region to help continue to push women’s baseball forward.”

Will there be other festivities?

Yes. Hard Rock Casino Rockford will sponsor a Block Party at Beyer from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, next to the stadium on Seminary Street. This community celebration is free and will feature a DJ and a variety of entertainment, food and beverage options, plus kids' activities such as a whiffle ball derby.
