Chef Adrianne’s popular Kendall restaurant reopens in a new spot with outdoor dining

At a time when most restaurants are just trying to weather the coronavirus pandemic, Chef Adrianne’s is doubling down on a comeback.

Adrianne Calvo has moved her moved her successful Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar from its modest 40-seat home of 13 years in a west Kendall strip mall to an 8,000 square-foot space with an outdoor patio in the Town & Country Mall.

Calvo announced the move in June, just as she was getting ready to open the waterfront Red Fish, a rebranding of the former Red Fish Grill in Coral Gables’ Matheson Hammocks Park, which closed for more than three years after it was damaged by a hurricane.

Of course, when she made that announcement, restaurants were still allowed to be open for inside dining. Miami-Dade ordered inside seating closed to slow the spread of COVID-19 cases.

The new Chef Adrianne’s will seat about 270 when inside dining is allowed to reopen.

For now, it will still seat a healthy 82 with six feet between tables in the outdoor space that used to belong to the defunct Devon Seafood & Steak at 11715 Sherri Lane.

Regulars will be glad to see some of their favorites on her new menu, including the center-cut filet and French onion soup on Tuesdays and the “cowgirl” bone-in ribeye on Thursdays. New additions include brown sugar Cajun baby back ribs and charbroiled oysters.

The new restaurant brings in some of the original’s vineyard touches, such as the wine barrel casks on the walls, brick facades and hanging plants.

The space is brighter, with copper and blonde wood accents and pops of teal. A glassed-in wine cellar shows off Calvo’s wine selections. And the new dining room looks into an open kitchen.
