Team Tila, rejoice—renowned chef and restaurateur Chef Jet Tila just launched a new line of cookware with HSN. The collection includes chef-quality staples ideal for home cooks, including a four-piece wok set, a 12-inch skillet and a Japanese steel chef's knife.

“Working with HSN has been on my bucket list,” Tila explained. “My job is to make all food accessible. You’ve got the books, you have a recipe, and now you actually have the equipment to cook it in.”

We sat down with Chef Jet to discuss what we can expect from his new cookware line, how he curated (and tested) the collection, and why it stands out from other lines on the market.

The Chef Jet Tila collection is made with quality first

When Tila described the products that were in his new collection, you could feel the passion he held for each piece of equipment. Tila wanted pieces to be high-quality additions to every kitchen, but accessible for chefs of all talent levels.

After working for 30 years in the culinary world, Tila wanted to make a line of cookware that reflected his life experience as both a professional chef and father—someone who demands excellence, but also wants to be able to split a homemade pizza pocket with his kids on a Friday.

“It’s a passion to connect with people and give them a culinary experience through whatever medium,” Tila said. “[The line] is an opportunity to really feel like a pro chef, but with no extra learning curves. Grab the gear, check out our recipes, then let’s just cook together.”

As someone who owns all of Jet Tila’s cookbooks, it was reassuring to hear how passionately he felt about providing home cooks with the tools that will make life easier. It was evident that he cared deeply about the construction of each item, from the steel that made the knife to the hybrid coating on the stainless steel skillet.

Chef Jet Tila was hands-on with each piece throughout the process

The Jet Tila collection at HSN isn’t just cookware featuring his name—he felt strongly about curating a line that was worthy of bearing his name and endorsement.

There were a few kitchen staples he said had to be part of the collection.

“I’ve been a gear nerd most of my life,” Tila said. “I created this line with the great people of HSN, but I was able to say, ‘Hey guys, we need a 12-inch pan. I want tri-ply, I need this hybrid coating.’”

As Tila would describe what he wanted, he was able to work closely with the HSN team to test each iteration and provide feedback, making sure the final products were exactly what he envisioned.

“Every piece of equipment I was in there, for every phase, until it got to this point,” Tila sad. “We broke a few eggs to make the perfect omelet.”

Everything to shop from the Chef Jet Tila HSN cookware line

The new HSN cookware line features five new products: a four-piece wok set, a 6-inch Japanese steel knife, a chopper mixer set, a 12-inch nonstick skillet and a three-piece dumpling dough press set.

Here’s what Chef Jet has to say about each piece in the collection.

“Everything should do many things because a lot of us have limited time, limited budget, we have families,” Tila said. “You’ve got the wok, you’ve got a steamer insert, you’ve got the lid. You’ve got the whole shoot and match.”

A chef’s pan is one of the most ambidextrous kitchen tools you can own, and with the added steamer and insert, the pan set from the Tila collection adds another layer of functionality. The pan is made from nonstick stainless steel—something Tila felt strongly about when it came to both the chef’s pan and the 12-inch skillet.

“It’s three layers of metal—a copper conductor sandwiched between stainless,” Tila explained. “But it’s not just stainless. We’ve also created a special grid where it’s nonstick and stainless.”

The 12-inch stainless steel skillet is made from the same construction, providing the browning abilities of stainless steel with the ease of a nonstick coating.

“12-inch seems big, but if you’re cooking for one to four, I think you don’t need to have three pans of different sizes,” Tila said. “It’s got the helper handle on it, because when you’re making big portions of food, it’s important to be able to place it down.”

Jet Tila fans will not be shocked to learn the chef has a knife in his new collection.

“Everyone knows me for my knife skills,” Tila said. “There’s a six-inch chef’s knife, but it’s kind of a hybrid, taking the best of the whole world. It’s Japanese steel—kind of a Santo shape—but the wood is a Mediterranean olive wood.”

Another exciting addition to the collection is a stainless steel three-piece dumpling dough press set, which can be used for far more than just traditional dumplings.

“It’s not just for gyoza or Chinese dumplings,” Tila said. “It’s also for pizza pockets and hand pies.”

The collection rounds out with a mini pull-chopper set, which includes a chopper, base, assortment of blades and garlic peeler. Like most other items in the line, the chopper can be used for much more than just dicing vegetables.

“In like five seconds, you could mince whole heads of herbs,” Tila said. “You can use it to make whipped cream, you could use it to make salsas—you could use it to make a ton of stuff.”
