Chef's 'mess-free' lemon hack doesn't require a knife: 'Literally changed my life'

Farrah Jalanbo is the chef behind Spiced Nice, a TikTok dedicated to celebrating simple, spicy foods. The focus isn’t necessarily on heat so much as how herbs, spices and seasonings can elevate any dish.

Jalanbo is chock full of yummy recipes like halloumi fries with hot honey, corn ribs and accordion potatoes.

But in February, it wasn’t one of her tasty meals that went viral but rather a pretty life-altering lemon hack.

“My favorite lemon hack,” Jalanbo explained in the video. “Sometimes you just need a bit of lemon juice and instead of cutting a whole lemon open you can just roll one until it softens.”

She rolled a lemon on a table. Then she used a wooden skewer to pierce the end. The small hole allowed Jalanbo to squeeze a spritz of lemon juice on her meal and save the rest for later. Genius.

“It’s mess-free. There are no seeds. And that’s why it’s my favorite lemon hack,” she said.

The video earned 1.8 million views on TikTok. Most people hadn’t seen the hack before.

“TikTok has taught me so much, it’s crazy,” someone wrote.

“You literally changed my life,” another commented.

“I’ll never forget this. Absolutely brilliant,” a user posted.
