Chelmsford Church Asks: Need Prayer? Drive On Up

CHELMSFORD, MA — It's been around for years, drive-thru prayer or church ministries, from Newport Beach, California to Lutz, Florida as an effort to reach spiritual seekers on the go. More recently, amid fears of the spread of coronavirus and governors orders, Chelmsford churches are utilizing the drive-thru to reach their parishioners and community members.

The latest: A group of church members from Immanuel Church at 301 Boston Rd. have organized a "Drive Thru Prayer Ministry," from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays in the church parking lot.

It's part of an effort to help community members, according to the church's officials.

"Whether its praise or prayer you want; we'd like to help with that," reads an invitation. "Many people say they're just not sure how to pray or they're uncomfortable with prayer. Friends, our folks are familiar and comfortable with prayer and would count it a privilege to prayer with or for you."

If you're interested, pull into the drive that parallels the street, stay in your car, they'll pray for you and then you are free to pull back out.

Earlier this year, the Chelmsford Catholic Collaborative offered drive-thru confessionals 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays at St. John’s, and Wednesdays at St. Mary’s.
