Chelsea Manning Shares First Photo Of Herself Since Leaving Prison

Chelsea Manning shared a photo of herself a day after being released from prison Wednesday.

The whistle-blower debuted her new look on her social media accounts on Thursday after seven years behind bars. Former President Barack Obamacommuted her sentencebefore leaving office in January.

Manning wassentenced to 35 years in prisonin 2013 for providing WikiLeaks with a massive amount ofsensitive government documents. She was heralded as a heroic whistle-blower by some and a traitor by others.

That same year, Manningcame out as transgenderand shared with the world that she identified as a woman named Chelsea, “request[ing] that ... you refer to me by my new name and use the feminine pronoun.”

During her time in prison, Manningattempted suicide twice, and was sentenced to solitary confinement for one of the attempts in late 2016.
