Update: Chemung County could be adding new buses to transit system

Update: New buses are coming to the Chemung County Transit System after a resolution meeting was held Monday night by the Chemung County Legislature.

County officials told 18 News that five large buses and one small bus will be purchased to replace some of the older buses in the fleet.

Officials add that all of the buses are conventional engine buses and not electric.


ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Chemung County could soon see new transit buses driving around according to information from the Chemung County Legislature.

According to the legislature’s agenda, the group is expected to pass a resolution on Monday that will pave the way for new Chemung County Transit System buses.

Chemung County Sheriff to hold town hall meeting

This operation carries a price of $2,730,000 with the legislature expected to approve $317,927 in bonds to purchase the buses.

This money is expected to fund five large buses and one small bus, all of which will have gas engines.

The legislature is set to meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, in the Hazlitt Building.
