Chemung County Sheriff’s Office warns about another phone scam

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) – The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about another phone scam that has surfaced in the area.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the current scam involves a person who is making calls where they are pretending to be a representative from a police agency and stating that there is a warrant out for the call victim’s arrest. The caller then requests payment for bail money.

Deputies are warning the community that these calls are fraudulent and that those who are receiving the calls should never give out any personal or payment information over the phone.

Whether you have been arrested before or not, the Sheriff’s Office says members of the agency will never call individuals over the phone and ask for debit or credit card information.
