Chemung County wins environmental leadership award

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) — Chemung County was recognized for its contributions to the local water quality last week.

According to Chemung County Executive Chris Moss’s Office, Moss was honored with the Frank E. Van Lare Award for Environmental Leadership on the county’s behalf. The New York Water Environment Association presented Moss with this award at the organization’s 96th annual meeting in New York City on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Chemung County District Attorney wins Outstanding Prosecutor Award

The Frank E. Van Lare Award is given to an elected official at the village, town, city, or county level who has made significant contributions to advancing water quality environmental programs. Moss dedicated the award to Chemung County Sewer District Executive Director Ali Rennie and her team.

This environmental leadership award was named after Frank E. Van Lare. Van Lare was a politician from Rochester who served the city and Monroe County before joining the New York State Senate. While on the Senate, Van Lare was the chairman of the State Temporary Commission on Water Resources from 1960 to 1966 and promoted the bipartisan Pure Waters program.
