Cher Breathes Life Into #FreeBritney Movement During Conservatorship War

Cher is jumping into the ongoing drama between Britney Spears' conservatorship and her loyal fans, and the iconic singer is showing support for the grassroots movement that wants Spears to be free of her legal shackles. The "Believe" singer made the public comments this week as a hearing was held in Los Angeles for the advisors of Spears' conservatorship.

Taking to Twitter, Cher retweeted a local article detailing the efforts of the #FreeBritney movement and added a personal message:

"JUST ENOUGH MEDS TO KEEP HER WORKING,BUT NOT ENOUGH TO HAVE A LIFE."

#FreeBritney Praises Cher

After Cher brought more exposure to the battle within Britney's conservatorship, fans were elated.

"Thank u@cherfor making this more visible. Britney has been in a prison for over a decade because of this conservatorship," one fan responded to the singer.

"Thank you for shining a light on this issue cher. We've been fighting for a while now . #FreeBritney" another wrote.

"Thank you Cher for being the most beautiful part. I'm so glad that You are on the right side of the history," a third commented.

Why the Support?

The comments by Cher were surprising, as the singer has not spoken about the conservatorship in the past. However, Cher clearly has a soft spot for Britney as she has served as the original diva role model for Spears over the years.

Cher famously threw some loving shade at the younger generation of divas, including Spears and J. Lo, during the end of her latest Las Vegas residency.

"I have been an evil freakin' diva for 40 freakin' years," Cher told a screaming crowd back in 2017.

She said her motive for making her Vegas show so "fabulous" was to be able to tell the younger stars, "follow this, you bitches!"

The Next Step for #FreeBritney

Unfortunately, the #FreeBritney movement will have to wait until April to find out the next hurdle, as the judge in the case merely added another court date to the schedule this week.

As The Blast previously reported, the conservator in Britney's case filed documents claiming the "Womanizer" singer is on board with the personal restraints, however many members of the #FreeBritney firmly believe Britney is not making those choices with her own free will.

After the delay in scheduling this week, the protesters were frustrated but urged each other to remain focused on the ultimate goal:

"Even though it sucks seeing more dates constantly added on, we can't give up fighting for Britney. she has been stuck in this conservatorship and we are the ones who made the dissolving process begin to happen, we can't give up now!" one #FreeBritney protester wrote on Twitter.
