Cher ditches Facebook, Google for 'conspiring with Russia to destroy our democracy'

Facebook and Google have one less user to worry about.

Cher, 72, vowed to boycott the two tech giants Tuesday, saying Facebook and Google's alleged love of money trumps their "(love) of country."

"Won't use Google, getting rid of Facebook account I didn't know I had," Cher tweeted in all capital letters. "These companies have no allegiance to, or (love) of anything but money."

The pop icon continued, referencing the companies' lax oversight that enabled foreign interference with the 2016 presidential election: "They might as well be conspiring with Russia to destroy our democracy."

The outspoken critic of President Trump made her announcement a day after the Senate released a pair of reports that say Russia engaged in an all-out social media campaign on Donald Trump's behalf during the 2016 election and continued to support him after he took office.

According to one report compiled by Oxford University’s Computational Propaganda Project and a social media analysis firm called Graphika, Russia's Internet Research Agency "launched an extended attack on the United States by using computational propaganda." More than 30 million people shared content from the Internet Research Agency on Facebook and Instagram from 2015 to 2017.

Cher made no mention of Instagram (which is owned by Facebook), but pledged to remain active on Twitter because of her fans: "Would get rid of Twitter if it wasn't 4 (love) of you."

Twitter users were pleased to hear this. One supporter tweeted, "The day Cher deletes twitter is the day I delete my existence."
