Cherokee Civic Theatre hosting auditions for "Anne of Green Gables"

Dec. 30—Cherokee Civic Theatre is hosting open auditions at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, and Monday, Jan. 8, for its upcoming production of "Anne of Green Gables."

The play, adapted by Jody Johnston Davidson, from the classic novel by L.M. Montgomery,, will be directed by Mary Chute and produced by Judy Faye Garner by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc, Englewood, Colo.

"Anne of Green Gables" is set in the late 19th century and recounts the adventures of an 11-year-old orphan girl, Anne, who is mistakenly sent to two middle-aged siblings who had originally intended to adopt a boy to help them on their farm.

Cast needed includes:

—1 adult male, age 40-plus;

—2 females, age 40-plus;

—4-5 females, age 18-plus;

—2 teen females, to play ages 12 to 14;

—1 teen male, to play ages 13 to 15;

—and several youths, age 10 to 14, for non-speaking roles.

Open auditions consist of cold readings from the script and will be conducted at the historic Cherokee Theater, located at 157 W. 5th St. in Rusk. All are welcome to try out. No experience is necessary.

Performances of "Anne of Green Gables" are scheduled for Friday, March 1 through Sunday, March 3.
