Cherry Health: Cyber breach compromised some data

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Cherry Health says the network problem that has hampered online scheduling was the result of a security breach.

The health care system had previously acknowledged the disruption, but then said in a letter dated Wednesday that it was the result of a “cybersecurity incident” in which “some data stored in our network was subject to unauthorized access.”

Cherry Health says it doesn’t yet know exactly what information was compromised.

“Should we discover individuals’ information has been impacted as our investigation continues, direct notification will be provided,” the letter reads in part.

Citing an “abundance of caution,” the letter says Cherry Health is offering patients free identity protection services services as its investigation continues. The services include a year of credit monitoring, a cyber scan, identity theft insurance and, if needed, a fully-managed identity recovery option. Patients will have to call IDX at 888.964.4694 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays to enroll.

A federally qualified health center, Cherry Health serves patients in six counties regardless of their ability to pay.
