Cherry Hill office park could get a Starbucks, daycare center

CHERRY HILL – A Starbucks here could be seeing a familiar-looking neighbor — another Starbucks.

The owner of an office complex wants to build a Starbucks in a parking lot at the Commerce Center in Cherry Hill.

It would rise off Haddonfield Road and Chapel Avenue, a few hundred feet from an existing Starbucks on the 500 block of Haddonfield Road, according to an application before Cherry Hill's zoning board.

There’d be one big difference between the two coffee shops.

The proposed Starbucks expects to draw 60 percent of its patrons with drive-thru service, the application says.

The existing Starbucks, which occupies a storefront in a strip center, does not have a drive-thru lane.

A Starbucks representative did not respond to a request for comment on the existing store's outlook.

The proposed Starbucks, a roughly 2,500-square-foot store, would share a pad site with a 2,800-square-foot building intended for retail use.

A second pad site would hold a 9,366-square-foot daycare center with a 6,159-square-foot playground. It would rise farther down Chapel Avenue. on the eastern edge of the office center’s parking lot.

The daycare center with about 25 employees, would serve some 185 children from infancy through 5 years old. It also would offer an after-school program for children up to 12 years old.

No changes are planned for three office buildings at the 13-acre complex, according to the application by the site’s Brooklyn-based owner, The Center at Cherry Hill LLC.

The zoning board is expected to consider the proposals at its Dec. 1 meeting.
