Chesapeake’s Grant Holloway easily advances to semifinals of 110 hurdles at World Track & Field Championships

Chesapeake’s Grant Holloway advanced through the first round of the 110 hurdles at the 2022 World Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

This is the first time the United States is hosting the outdoor championships.

Holloway, a Grassfield grad, easily won his heat in 13.14 seconds. He ran the fastest time of the day, just ahead of Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment, who ran 13.17.

Holloway is the defending world champion in the 110 hurdles as he won gold at the 2019 World Track & Field Championships in Doha, Qatar. But Parchment beat Holloway last summer at the Tokyo Olympics.

The semifinals and finals will at 8:05 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., respectively, on Sunday.

Meanwhile, former Oscar Smith High star Michael Cherry will compete in a 400 meters heat at 2 p.m. Sunday.
