Chesco Nursing Homes With the Most Coronavirus Cases, Deaths
CHESTER COUNTY, PA — State officials have released specifics on the number of coronavirus cases and deaths at nursing homes and long-term care facilities in Chester County and throughout Pennsylvania.
There are a total of 36 facilities in Chester County listed in the recent statistics issued by the state that have confirmed cases of the virus.
Statewide, the long term care facilities account for about 68 percent of deaths.
The situation inside Pennsylvania's nursing homes during the pandemic has become so grim that Attorney General Josh Shapiro has opened criminal investigations into several long-term facilities. Shapiro did not say specifically which facilities are under investigation.
In addition, "strike teams" from the CDC and National Guard have been deployed to four facilities around Montgomery County to help with assessment and to facilitate widespread testing. The state is aiming to test every resident and staff member in all facilities once a week moving forward.
“Long-term care facility residents are among the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians, and we want their families to have the latest information on what is going on in the facilities in which their loved ones reside,” Pennsylvania Health Secretary Rachel Levine said. “COVID-19 is a particularly challenging situation for these settings as they care for residents with serious medical conditions. We will continue to work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents through education, resources and testing."
The data released Tuesday provides the number of cases, number of employee cases and number of deaths that have occurred at each facility.
