Chester County Hospital Ranked Among 50 Best in U.S.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — U.S. News & World Report gave Chester County Hospital national ranking for excellent care, placing the hospital among the top 50 in the U.S.

The general medical and surgical teaching hospital also was rated as high performing in three adult specialties and procedures. These are response to heart failure, hip replacement, and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Chester County Hospital ranked 10th in the state of Pennsylvania and was 5th regionally, among Philadelphia area hospitals in the Chester County Hospital U.S. News report.

In patient satisfaction surveys, the hospital rated 4 out of 5 stars in overall satisfaction, communication with doctors and with nurses, satisfaction with efforts to prevent medication harm, and the willingness of patients to recommend the hospital.

To help patients decide where to receive care, U.S. News generates hospital rankings by evaluating data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult medical specialties, 10 adult procedures or conditions and 10 pediatric specialties.

To be nationally ranked in a specialty, a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients. In most specialties, the top 50 hospitals are nationally ranked and additional hospitals may be recognized as high performing.

In speaking of the recognition Chester County Hospital President and CEO Michael Duncan said, "Chester County Hospital relentlessly pursues new clinical services and higher levels of quality to provide the best care possible for our community. The recognition of those efforts from U.S. News & World Report is an honor and a testament to our frontline workers."

Duncan added, "Our workforce has endured many challenges this year as we opened the largest expansion in our history, and moved quickly into fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, and still sought opportunities to advance the level of care we provide. I am filled with pride and admiration for our staff."

Hospitals that do well in multiple areas of adult care may be ranked in their state and metro area. The ratings in procedures and conditions focus on typical Medicare patients and eligibility is based on the number of patients treated.
