CHESTER – The manufacturer of a line of household and personal goods, from condoms to dental care and common-cold treatment, plans to expand its operations in Virginia, Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office said.

Church & Dwight Co. will spend $27 million to expand its facility on Touchstone Drive just off Ruffin Mill Road, the governor’s office said in an email Monday afternoon. The expansion is expected to create 53 new jobs.

“Proximity to major interstates and population centers positions the company to easily deliver its iconic household products to target markets, and the region’s skilled manufacturing workforce supports Church & Dwight’s steady growth,” Youngkin said in the statement. “We look forward to building on our strong partnership in the years to come.”

Among the 14 brands under the Church & Dwight umbrella are Trojan condoms, Arm & Hammer baking soda, Zicam cold medicine, OxiClean laundry products, Lil’ Critters children’s vitamins, and Spinbrush and Waterpik dental products. Products made in Chesterfield include baking soda and condoms.

Youngkin's office said the expansion will be dedicated to manufacturing a laundry product.

Local leaders quoted in the statement praised the company’s decision to expand.

Matoaca Supervisor Kevin Carroll, who chairs the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors, said the expansion “will continue to drive innovation and we look forward to a new product made right here in Chesterfield.” Del. Carrie Coyner, R-Chesterfield, said the decision “recognizes the exceptional services offered by our community.”

Sen. Joe Morrissey, D-Chesterfield, said the expansion “shows that the commonwealth of Virginia is a great place for businesses to invest and succeed."

No date was given for when the expansion will be complete.
