Chevrolet Trax SUVs Are Recalled Due to a Faulty Suspension Part

Chevrolet has announced that it's voluntarily recalling additional Trax SUVs because a faulty suspension part could cause a crash. This expansion adds 93,693 more vehicles from the 2015 through 2018 model years to the initial recall of 112,958 SUVs from the model years 2017 through 2019.

A part of the front suspension may have been welded improperly. If the weld fails, one of the vehicle’s front wheels may turn itself slightly outward. That could make it difficult to steer the vehicle and may lead to a crash.

A Chevrolet spokesman, Dan Flores, said that the automaker is aware of one crash but no injuries related to this problem.

The Details

Vehicles recalled: 206,651 Chevrolet Trax SUVs manufactured from:

  • July 1, 2015, through June 30, 2017

  • July 1, 2017, through April 4, 2019

The problem: A supplier may have improperly welded a joint in one or both of the vehicle’s front lower control arms. The control arm is a suspension component that makes a connection between the wheel assembly and the vehicle’s chassis.

The fix: Dealers will inspect the front control arms and replace them free of charge, if necessary.
